POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Different location, same story for the Kennett Indians soccer team.

Playing their first road game of the season, the Indians (0-3-1) were mercy-ruled for the third time in four games this season, falling 10-0 to the Poplar Bluff Mules at Whiteley Park Monday.

In area volleyball action, Holcomb defeated Gideon 15-25, 25-20, 25-18, while Southland downed Delta C-7 25-15, 25-20 and South Pemiscot defeated North Pemiscot.

At Poplar Bluff, the game was over quickly, as the Mules scored their 10th goal at the game's 44th minute to end the contest by the 10-goal rule.

Kennett host Saxony Lutheran of Cape Girardeau Thursday at Indian Park.

Volleyball

Holcomb def. Gideon

At Holcomb, the Lady Hornets defeated the Lady Bulldogs in three to give coach Gentry Vancil her first win over her alma mater since taking the reins at Holcomb.

After dropping the first game 25-15, Holcomb (6-4-1, 3-1 Tri-County) came alive.

"We took them out of their offense," Vancil said. "We picked at them, we picked them to death."

Vancil was quick to credit her team's overall performance Monday.

"Everyone was on," she said. "Everybody had a good game."

The Lady Hornets host Cooter today in another Tri-County Conference tilt.

Southland def. Delta

At Cardwell, the Lady Rebels won their second game of the season and their first Tri-County Conference contest of the season by downing the Lady Chargers.

Lindsey Blankenship had another solid game for Delta C-7 (2-4, 2-2 Tri-County) in the loss.

Southland won the junior varsity contest 19-25, 25-18, 25-20 and is 4-2 on the season.

The Lady Rebels (2-8, 1-3) host North Pemiscot Thursday, while Delta travels to Portageville today.
