In volleyball action Monday, Clarkton defeated Malden 25-18, 25-17 and Delta C-7 defeated South Pemiscot 25-16, 25-11. In weekend baseball games, Cooter won twice at Broseley, defeating Clearwater, 9-0, and Twin Rivers, 19-18, in eight innings.
At Senath, Gideon (10-3-1) came out on fire, scoring the game's first 12 points behind the serving of Erin Richardson and then dominating behind hitters Cassie Woolverton, Lindsey Wilson and Sierra Randolph.
Woolverton finished with six aces and two kills, while Wilson led the Lady Bulldogs with six kills and Randolph added five kills. Richardson paced Gideon with 15 assists, while Maci Boone finished with five aces.
The loss was the sixth straight for the Lady Lions (3-8), who host Holcomb today at 6 p.m.
Clarkton def. Malden
At Clarkton, the Lady Reindeer improved to 8-6 on the season with a two-set win over Malden.
Sara Darnell led the way for Clarkton with seven kills, three aces, six digs, two blocks and served 100 percent as a jump server. Whitney Coleman added four kills, while Tasha Joiner added six assists and Larissa Gambling added four digs.
Delta C-7 def. South Pemiscot
At Steele, the Lady Chargers (4-6) won their second straight game behind strong hitting, serving and receiving games from Lindsey Blankenship and Lindsey Bryant.
South Pemiscot won the junior varsity contest 25-20, 25-16 despite solid games from Kelsey Staggs and Kristin Pierce.
Baseball
Cooter takes two at Broseley
Saturday, the Cooter Wildcats improved to 13-2 with victories over Clearwater and Twin Rivers
Against Clearwater, Corey Hinklin pitched a three-hit shutout, striking out seven and walking two, while Jeremy McCaig and Nick Rinks each had a pair of hits to pace the Wildcats' nine-hit attack,
Against host school Twin Rivers, Cooter scored seven runs in the top of the seventh inning -- the last four coming on a Josh Hutton grand slam -- to erase a 16-9 deficit and send the game to extra innings, then added three runs in the top of the eighth to complete the comeback.
Hutton and McCaig had each had three hits to lead Cooter, while Aaron McCaig and Devon Barger had a pair of hits. Hutton also had two homers on the day, while Jeremy McCaig and Evan House each hit one.
Josh Hutton picked up win in relief, while Devon Barger closed the eighth inning for the save.
