The Kennett Indians and Lady Indians track teams may not have been firing on all cylinders Thursday, but it was still enough to bring home a pair of victories.

The Tribe edged out powerful Malden and two other schools, while the girls outdistanced their nearest competition by almost 50 points at Metz Cherry Stadium.

On the boys side, Kennett got past Malden 95-91.5, while New Madrid County Central was third with 50.5 points and Caruthersville finished with 21.

On the girls' side, Susan Shetley turned in her own dominant performance, winning both the 100- and 300-hurdles and also taking home first in the long jump, while finishing second in the triple jump.

Leanna Siebenhuener took home first in both the 800 and 1600, while the 4x800 team also won. Veronica Amos jumped 4-feet-8 to win the high jump, while Sharika Walls won the discus and took second in the shot put.

Coming in second for the Lady Tribe were Tamere White in the 100-hurdles, Akedia Edmondson in the 100-meters, Samantha Geary in the 3200, Tamika Calloway in the discus and the 4x400-relay team.

Bringing home third for Kennett were Geary in the 1600, Odejah Samuel in the 400-meters, Hanna Lack in the 300-hurdles, Pia Lawrence in the 800, Meredith Combs in the 3200, Calloway in the shot put, Jerica Wheeler in the triple jump and Samantha Risner in the high jump. The 4x200-relay team also took home third.

"I think that we have seen that we have some talent as a team," Kennett girls coach Marc Sherrell said. "However we still have a lot of hard work to do to get to were we need to be come districts. But for it to be the first meet of the year -- with as little training as we have been able to do -- I am very pleased."

Both squads are at NMCC on Tuesday.

Golf
Tribe wins again

The Kennett Indians golf team improved to 4-0 on the season with wins over Dexter and Caruthersville Thursday at Kennett County Club.
