However the Lady Tribe did not cash it in, scoring five runs in the bottom of the fifth to pull out a 6-2 victory over the Dexter Lady Bearcats Tuesday at Indian Park.
"I know that our team didn't let down," Kennett sophomore Taylor Wake said. "We're not that easy to beat. We like to make games a little exciting, but we also know we'll pull through."

"Ashley did a great job of getting the bunt down," Kennett coach Laurie Vaughan said. "We saw their defense playing back and we hadn't bunted yet (so we) took advantage of it. It sparked us and rattled them a little bit because it wasn't expected.
"We just needed something to get us fired up and that did it."
Did it ever. Wake doubled home Downs with the tying run, then Jody Vancil singled home Wake to give the Lady Tribe a 3-2 lead.
After Kalee Gore scored on an error, Vancil came home on an Allyson Luce sacrifice fly to cap the rally.
Kennett tacked on a final run in the bottom of the sixth inning when Wake reached on an error and later scored on another Dexter miscue.
The Lady Bearcats (1-1) finished with six errors on the day.
"Our bats were struggling, but we were able to get a couple that put the ball in play," said Vaughan. "We were able to be aggressive on the bases which caused a lot of errors. They were able to see things offensively because they did a lot of things themselves."
While the Lady Tribe was manufacturing runs, Laurel Scales was making sure Dexter didn't score many. The sophomore hurler dominated Tuesday, allowing just two hits, one walk and one earned run while striking out 12.
"Laurel is an amazing pitcher," Wake said. "Your team can only go so far if you don't have a pitcher. We can always count on her no matter the situation."
Gore was 2-for-3 on the day to pace Kennett, while Wake scored twice.
The Lady Indians (1-0) are off until Monday when they travel to New Madrid County Central.
"It's great to finally have a beautiful day for softball and get (the first) game in," said Vaughan. "I talked to (Kennett volleyball) coach (Laura) Ort today and she sent me an e-mail that said, 'You can't win them all until you win the first one.'"
Baseball
Delta C7 10, North Pemiscot 9
At Wardell, the visiting Chargers got a one-hitter from Sloan Richardson and overcame several fielding errors to hold off the Mustangs.
Richardson struck out nine and walked five -- four intentionally -- in six innings of work, while James Blanton pitched the seventh inning to close out the game.
Blanton, Richardson and Cody Dudley each had two hits for Delta C7.
Campbell 10, East Prairie 1
At Campbell, the host Camels defeated a Class 2, District 1 rival for the second time in as many days as it dominated the visiting Eagles.
Campbell (2-1) capitalized on eight Eagles' errors despite managing just four hits on the day. Cote Harralston had two RBIs for the Camels.
Joe Campbell started and got the win for Campbell.

Kennett 175, Doniphan 200
At Kennett Country Club, the Indians improved to 5-0 as they fought through the wind to down the Dons.
Johnathan Rogers shot a 40 to earn medalist honors, while Justin Lynn carded a 44, Cory Janson scored a 45, Ryan Richardson bagged a 46, Randy Crawford recorded a 47 and Ben Collins finished with a 55.
Kennett won the jayvee match 148-207 as Sean Callawaert shot a 44 to set the pace for the Tribe.
The Indians have a key match at Sikeston Thursday.
"They're in our district," Kennett coach Ken Garland said. "They're one of the strongest teams in the district. "It'll be a tough match."

Some credit should probably be given to Dexter pitcher Stephanie Jackson for the "Kennett bats stuggling". She pitched a fine game that day, and Kennett hitters are good enough they probably wouldn't "struggle" against an average or less pitcher.
