Kelly races out to big lead to spoil Senior Day for Indians

The Kelly Hawks raced out to a big lead and held off a late comeback to defeat the Kennett Indians 7-4 Thursday at Indian Park, spoiling Senior Day for the Tribe.

In other area baseball games, it was Senath-Hornersville 10, Holcomb 3; Cooter 9, South Pemiscot 7; and North Pemiscot defeated Gideon.

Kelly took a 7-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning before the Tribe (12-10) rallied for two runs each in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings. However, the Hawks rebounded to halt the Kennett rally and seal the game.

The Indians had trouble solving Kelly hurler Josh DeBrock, who limited the Tribe to just four hits and went the distance for the victory.

Senior Shane Branum doubled for Kennett, while Austin Jackson, Billy Fender and Trey Bazzell has Kennett's other hits.

Jackson started and took the loss for the Tribe.

Kennett is off until Monday, when it takes on Doniphan in the first round of the Class 3, District 1 Tournament.

Cooter 9, South Pemiscot 7
At Steele, the visiting Wildcats picked up their 18th win of the spring with a hard fought victory over the two-time defending Class 2 District 1 champion Bulldogs.

Cooter (18-2) picked up 11 hits, led by Charles Copeland's three doubles. Seth Childers and Aaron Brown had a pair hits each.

Starting pitcher Aaron McCaig pitched around four Cooter errors to improve to 7-0. Zach Watkins got the last two outs to close the game.

Cameron Links led South Pemiscot with two hits as the 'Dogs picked up nine hits as a team.

Chris Medlin took the loss in relief for South Pemiscot.

Senath-H'ville 10, Holcomb 3
At Holcomb, Ben Salas tossed six strong innings lead the Lions to the victory and defeat the host Hornets for the second time in 10 days.

Salas allowed two runs in six innings before Matt Fouts closed the game for the Lions.

Corbin Clark, Dustin Elder and Chad Adams all had hits for Holcomb.

Fouts and Heath Horvath had big games for Senath-Hornersville.
