The Kennett Indians middle school girls basketball program concluded its first week of play Thursday afternoon against the Hayti Indians.

The Kennett seventh grade notched its third straight victory, defeating Hayti 37-14 to improve to 3-0.

"I've got a good bunch of girls that are quick," Kennett middle school basketball coach Janet Hilburn said of the seventh grade. "They can score and know what to do with the ball. They are taking care of business and never looking back. We have a bunch of good girls in that seventh grade and I hope we improve because we've got tough teams coming up."

The Kennett eighth grade dropped to 1-2 with a 23-22 loss to Hayti.

"We are having a hard time scoring," Hilburn said of the eighth grade. "We are getting our shots off and working the ball. In practice we are going to go back and get to where we are making our shots. Our free-throws have gotten better as the week has gone on. That was the big deal against South Pemiscot in the game that we lost, but other than that we are getting better and more aggressive each game."

Kennett will play two home games next week. Kennett will host Malden Tuesday at 6 p.m. and Sikeston Friday at 5:30 p.m.
