Sports are a "Go!'

In Southern California all sports are a "GO"! Just take your pick and you can easily attend any type of professional sporting event. If you really want to you can choose to attend several in one day. Being a mother of two USA swimmers, anything that has swim in the word or sentence catches my eye. So while reading the online news sites this morning I came across an article on Amanda Beard.

Amanda first came to attention at the 1996 Games, where as a scrawny 14-year-old she toted her teddy bear to the starting blocks and won two silver medals. She medaled at the 2000 Games, too. Now at 25 years old (I can tell you she is no longer scrawny after seeing her last year on the pool deck)she has elected to pose nude in this month's issue of Playboy magazine. And yes, it is causing a bit of a stir!

"There's a lot of debate about whether it demeans women and female athletes," said Dave Salo, Beard's coach at Trojan Swim Club. "If nothing else, it celebrates the athleticism and takes away from the model-type women."

Beard is aware of the criticism she could get from the mothers of young swimmers and girls. But she points out those are some of the same people who had her autograph FHM when she was in that magazine. Interesting point?

You have to remember, I'm still just a swimmer," she said. "I am living a great lifestyle and I'm making good money, but I'm not a basketball player. These deals are not $40 million deals."

Amanda is aiming to qualify for her fourth Olympics next year in Beijing, and is the Olympic champion and former world-record holder in the 200-meter breaststroke. So what do you think? Let's Blog!

This is pretty interesting. ESPN has a feature story about Beard as well and includes intereviews with Brandi Chastain who famously revealed her sports bra when scoring the goal in women's soccer.

Chastain was also asked to pose for Playboy but declined.

I've got to think this is one of those decisions people sometimes make when they're young they regret later in life.

Like a tattoo, but more permanent.

where can i see a copy of this latest magazine? I am from the Show-Me-State and before I comment I would like to see for myself before offering any judgement. HAHAHA j/k.

Lets see here. Take God out of school...look at all the great entertainment on television...look at all the great morals of todays society...look at the way young girls dress...look at the way parents let thier young girls dress....look at how much importance is placed on how much money one makes...how success is measured by our incomes...do I need to continue?? I'm not suprised at this senario...however, I am suprised at why people seemed to be suprised when things like this happen today. We should all blame ourselves for letting our society be like it is.

It is a shame...

oh, and my tattoo was not a mistake...and I do not regret it...and how do you get more permanent that a tattoo?? and why does a tattoo have to be a regretfull decision? I would think more of adultry...drug use...posing in playboy...being abusive...things to regret...not a tattoo! (I get your point though, no need to reply)

Mr. Sarcastic - thanks for the insight...what did you think about the All-Star game last night...did you stay awake for the whole game?? btw, sounds like you have more problems than a tattoo...rotflmbo! :)

Anyways,... I think it's disgusing. We're witnessing the downfall of America everyday and instead of fighting against the media, we all just go along. No one wants to fight the masses and stand up for what is right anymore. I agree with oefvet. The schools are horrible, people let their girls go out dressing like street walkers, the music playing on the radio is extremely offensive, singing about drugs, sex, pimps, hos, and various body parts, you can't turn on the TV without seeing sex on the TV. Amanda is just a classic example of someone selling their soul to the devil for some extra cash and popularity. And quite frankly those who participate in these things aren't any better.

what's up with our society these days i feel that it's wrong to pose nude but to let her still swim on the olympic swim team is WRONG their is enough BAD influence on our children already we need to stand firm in our christian beliefs posing NUDE in any magazine for any reason is WRONG!!!!!
