Never a dull moment here in Southern California!
Last night I was debating if I should drive over to Ventura to pick up my son at college. Why? Well the Porter Ranch fire was approximately 40 miles from his house in Ventura. The experts predicted between 11 pm and 4am the Santa Anna winds would pick up to near 70 miles an hour driving the fires towards the ocean. If the fire went north-west then it would be going toward Ventura, or if it went south-west then to Malibu. In trying to evaluate all this I had to take into consideration the freeway closing and how to get over there. Complicated! At the same time all this was going on a fire broke out in San Bernardino (which is about 30 miles east of my home) and the embers were blowing all over the city catching fires in many places. Again with Santa Anna winds, embers were being carried up to 2 miles.
About the only thing I did decide last night was that I really should have an emergency box with important papers, pictures, and things that I might need should I have to leave at a moment's notice.
Next day, as it turns out the fire is still burning, less than 5% contained, but it seems to be going south of Ventura. All my worries for nothing, my son is surfing!!! Oh to be a kid again with no worries.
