The Pageant of the Masters

One of our favorite places to visit in SoCal is Laguna Beach. Laguna is about 35 miles from our home, due south in Orange County (The OC) and is located on the coast.

July and August is a great time to visit Laguna Beach. The Pageant of the Masters is the Festival of Arts' crowning jewel and considered by some as the most unique production in the world.

What is it? Living pictures from classical and contemporary works of art with real people posing to look exactly like their counterparts in the original pieces. Performing in an out door amphitheater with a professional orchestra, live narrations, sophisticated lighting and hundreds of volunteers all make this happen.

This year's theme is "Partners," which describes people playing and working together. It includes scientists working as partners who were beheaded in the French Revolution, dancers as partners (Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers and Gene Kelly with a range of partners) plus other artists as partners.

The event lasts about two hours with one intermission. It's a great idea to bring your own food or pick up something special from one of the local restaurants. Picnics are very popular because of the natural beauty surrounding the property.

After the show its fun to just roam and take in the hundreds of art exhibits. Artists from all over the world showing their work is so fascinating. We also enjoy concerts during the day and wonderful culinary events that are available.

This special occasion is hard to describe, because words cannot do it justice. Zip lines, dancing, music, and "live art"! It's a mash up of many forms and a unique experience to say the least. You just have to see it yourself to appreciate this exceptional production!

Laguna Beach is about 40 miles south of Los Angles. If you consider visiting, try to fly into John Wayne International Airport (SNA). Laguna Beach is about 10 miles south of John Wayne.
