Susan's Hair Studio offers hair care, fashion accessories

Area residents now have a new choice when it comes time to have their locks trimmed or their nails done -- Susan's Hair Studio, located at 1006 Rear Independence.

Owner Susan Hood opened the full service salon at the end of July.

"I offer cuts, styles, weaves, highlights, color, waxing, manicures, pedicures," said Hood. "I also have several different lines of hair care products."

Those lines include such brands as Big Sexy, Biolage, Redken and Texture. However, Susan's Hair Studio doesn't just stop at hair and nails.

"I also offer a complete line of fashion accessories and purses," Hood said. "I also carry shawls and ponchos because those are very popular this fall."

Also popular this fall, according to Hood, are foil weaves.

"You can put several colors on the hair at the same time when you do the foil weaves," Hood explained.

And when it comes to creating a customer's new image, Hood said that she doesn't hesitate to take her time.

"I don't overbook," said Hood "I take my time and make sure that everything turns out like the customer wants.

"I also like to take the time to get to know my clients," Hood continued. "There's just no hustle and bustle here to get customers out the door as quickly as possible."

Hood is a Kennett native. She began styling five years ago and worked with nails for seven years prior to that. When friends and family began requesting Hood to do their hair, she decided it was time to go into business for herself.

"I've just always loved to work with hair," Hood said.

Hood and her husband, Randy, have two sons, Alex and Braden. When she isn't working, Hood said she is a full-time mom.

"I love being with my kids," said Hood "We spend a lot of time at the park -- a lot of time."
