Jennifer Freeze has joined the staff at the Daily Dunklin Democrat. She is a recent graduate from Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
"My hometown is Cape Girardeau, where I have lived all 23 years of my life, so I'm familiar with the Dunklin county area," Freeze said.
Freeze comes to Kennett with knowledge of the Kennett Swim Team. She said, "I enjoy swimming and I know that this area has an awesome swim team!
"Growing up, I was always a member of the Cape Gator swim team and also helped coach several years ago. I hear there will be a new swimming pool coming to Kennett, which I'm looking forward to."
The newspaper, according to Managing Editor Jack Rollins, is also looking forward to the addition Freeze will make to the staff. "She comes to the paper with reporting experience and with knowledge of several computer programs which we use here," Rollins said.
While a student at SEMO, Freeze was a staff reporter for the campus newspaper, the Capaha Arrow.
Freeze's degree from the university is in journalism. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communication/Journalism with a graphical communications technology minor. Working toward her degree, she acquired knowledge with the Associated Press Style Handbook, Quark, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Acrobat Reader.
"All of this knowledge and the reporting experince she brings to the newspaper will make her transition to the newspaper easier," Rollins said.
Not only does Freeze come to the newspaper with reporting experience, she has done some traveling as well. Her travels include trips to Europe and Mexico.
She enjoys traveling, she said, as well as spending time with friends and attending concerts.
The newspaper has been searching for two reporters since the resignation of Mack Skelton and Brian Rodriguez. Skelton has become the assistant housing director at Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff, Mo. Rodriquez has moved to Jacksonville, Ark. where he hopes to advance his pursuit of photography.
