SoutheastHEALTH and the Southeast Cancer Center are establishing a new Oncology outreach clinic in Dexter.
Andrew Moore, MD, who is affiliated with Southeast Hematology/Oncology in Cape Girardeau, will see patients every Thursday beginning May 1.
The clinic will be located in Doctors' Park, Suite 6, 1300 North One Mile Road in Dexter. Hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. For appointments, call 573-519-4830.
"I am very impressed with the team at the Southeast Cancer center and their unwavering commitment to quality patient care that focuses on the entire person and not just the disease," said Moore. "I believe the staff and facility are second to none."
As a hematologist/oncologist, Moore is passionate about patient care and the ever-advancing cancer treatments.
Moore says there is a special bond between patients with cancer and their doctors.
"You see your patients so often," Moore noted. "Cancer patients are so vulnerable. They need spiritual and emotional support as well as great medical care," he said.
Moore enjoys the science behind cancer treatment, too. "The field is advancing so fast," he noted. "It is always stimulating. Every cancer is different."
Moore and his wife, Legan, grew up in the Bootheel. He is the son of Mark and Mary Jean Moore of Hornersville, and she is the daughter of Ward and Jo Billings of Kennett.
Married for eight years, the Moores have a passion for dogs and are active volunteers with Missouri Pit Bull Rescue.
They own a white and brown pit bull, named Sami, which they found at a Kansas City animal shelter and fell in love with her affectionate nature.
"We have fostered many dogs over the years and are currently fostering a pit bull named Red," Moore said.
Moore's interest in medicine was sparked when he tore his rotator cuff while playing baseball in high school and had to undergo surgery to repair the injury.
He obtained a bachelor of liberal arts degree from the University of Missouri -- Kansas City. He received his MD degree from the same institution.
Dr. Moore completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Missouri -- Kansas City and a fellowship in hematology/oncology at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn.
Though they love the Kansas City community, the Moores are happy to be back in Southeast Missouri.
"We are looking forward to giving back to an area that has given us so much," he said.
Moore is board certified in internal medicine. His professional memberships include the American College of Physicians, AmerĀican Society of Clinical Oncology (associate member) and the American Society of Hematology (associate member).
