The watermelon growers meeting continues to improve. In addition to Dr. Reed Smeda and David Dunn from the University of Missouri and Mr. Bob Garino with the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service we have added Jason Hanselman with the Watermelon Promotion Board. The watermelon growers meeting continues to improve. In addition to Dr. Reed Smeda and David Dunn from the University of Missouri and Mr. Bob Garino with the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service we have added Jason Hanselman with the Watermelon Promotion Board. The meeting will cover soils, weeds, promotion and the future for our area. In addition, application has been made for 2 Certified Crop Advisor CEU credits for those CCA's who attend.

Special requests have been made to find sources for higher levels of pollination so we have received word from two visitors who deal with pollinators. These guests will be present to discuss options and visit with growers.

Finally we continue to receive confirmation from sponsors who plan to attend the meeting. At this time we have received word from Gowan Company, Helena Chemical Company, International Paper Company, Ken-Mo Ag Center, Koppert Biological Systems, Mobley Greenhouse, Nunhems USA, Plant Agra, Seminis Vegetable Seeds, Siegers Seed Company, Syngentia Seeds, TEVA Corporation, Two-Way Trading Company and Yara North America.

Make plans to attend the 2012 watermelon meeting on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at the American Legion Building in Kennett, MO with registration at 8:30 a.m.

Pre-registration is requested for the lunch meal from Strawberries and for any handouts. Please call the Butler County University of Missouri Extension Office, at 573-686-8064.
