Families that are at risk for Child Abuse/neglect in Pemiscot and Dunklin Counties often turn to the Families Support Project for the support they need.

The Project is a collaborative effort among agencies and organizations committed to the safety and health of children and is funded through the Children's Trust Fund.

Since January of 2009, families that were at risk of child abuse/neglect began receiving services using the Lead Agent Model.

Services to families are determined on a case by case basis through an Integrated Care Team with the help of the family regarding strengths, needs and goals for identification.

Some of the services the Families Support Project provides but are not limited to are safe cribs, car seats, home safety education, basic education (GED), post-secondary education, parenting skills, nutrition education, mental health care, substance abuse education/treatment, in-home medical respite care, WIC immunizations, domestic violence education/assistance, employment assistance, housing and other supportive assistance. These services are provided on an as needed basis through flex pool funds when available.

Beverly Wilburn, collaborative coordinator for the Families Support Project says, "Anticipated results are children and families safe and children and families healthy."
