The Kennett Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire involving a United States Postal Service delivery truck on Thursday afternoon.

According to the department, at approximately 2:17 p.m., on Thursday, a call was received from the driver of the postal vehicle, saying he could smell smoke.

When the driver returned to the vehicle, fire was coming from the engine.

The fire department responded to the scene on Hastings Drive and quickly extinguished the fire.

According to the official report, some mail was lost as a result of the fire. A mailbox near the postal vehicle was also damaged.

According to Kennett Fire Marshal Scott Tutor, the cause of the fire is believed to be an electrical short circuit.
