Vendors from all across the region packed the American Legion Building on Saturday, Dec. 3, as the Adelphian Club presented the 42nd Annual Adelphian Christmas Bazaar.

The event took place from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., as shoppers browsed over and purchased a wide variety of items including jewelry, clothing for children and adults, leather and woodwork products, embroidery and crocheted items, blown glass, calligraphy, art work, candles, a variety of Christmas decorations, various pastries and candies, a new item this year net bows, and more.

In addition to all of the unique finds available, hungry shoppers were able to satisfy their appetites with a menu consisting of chicken salad and pimento cheese sandwiches, chili, potato soup, hot dogs, a variety of pies and drinks.

"The turnout of the event was great this year," said Adelphian member Paula Calhoun. "There were so many people and the vendors had a good day -- lots of sales, big success and very happy with the turnout".

According to Calhoun, the Bazaar consisted of 80 vendors that rented 138 booth spaces.

"The kitchen had a great turnout. The soups and sandwiches sold out," Calhoun said.

Proceeds from the Bazaar fund the club's local scholarships, Sophomore Pilgrimage, Missouri Girls Town, Delta Children's Home, Community Christmas Party, United Way, Kennett Jaycee Good Neighbors, Senior Companion VNA, Salvation Army, Kennett Swim Team, American Red Cross, American Cancer Society, and a number of other organizations.

Although the profit figures are not known at this time, Calhoun said its about the same as the past years and the club appreciates everyone who came out to make the event another annual success.

The Adelphian Civic Club was organized in 1948, and is affiliated with the Missouri General Federation of Women's Clubs. The local club currently has 21 members.

Meetings are the third Tuesday of each month at the First United Methodist Church. Membership is by invitation, and is limited to 25 members.
