Jason Rhew has been named the Delta Fair Board Member of the Year.

Rhew recently reflected on the honor and his love for the fair.

“I've been involved with the fair my whole life,” he said. “My dad actually worked out here.”

Rhew continued, “They hired him to come out and set up. He built risers for the art work and many other things.”

“He did that for three or four years and then, finally, they asked him to get on the fair board,” shared Rhew. “He said, he'd love to.”

Love for the fair is exactly what it was. Danny Rhew held a position on the Delta Fair Board for the next 39 years.

“The Delta Fair is very important to me,” said Board Member of the Year Jason Rhew. “In my whole life I've probably only missed one or two days of the fair.”

Rhew informed the main function of the Delta Fair is to actually have a Delta Fair.

“That is the main goal,” he said. “With that, we also help many organizations raise money.”

Rhew stated, “There's fifteen food booths out here. They're all non-profit organizations, and for a lot of them, it's their biggest fundraiser.”

Rhew shared there are challenges regarding putting on the fair.

“Sometimes the fear of having enough money to put on the fair can be a worry,” he said. “If we have rain all week, or, God forbid, a tornado, or something like that, we would be in trouble.”

Rhew continued, “We do everything we can to get as many people here as we can to have fun. Then our attendance is up and we can have a fair next year.”

Rhew stated being on the fair board is an honor.

“I was fortunate enough that these folks voted me in to take my dad's spot and carry on that Rhew legacy for hopefully another 39 or 40 years.”

Rhew is married to Sara Rhew, and together they have twin seven year old sons, while Jason has a twenty year old that is a junior in college.

“We stay busy,” he said.

Rhew also has high praise for his hometown.

“I love Kennett,” he stated. “We've talked at times about moving to the beach, but I would miss my friends and family too much.”

“Our community has its struggles but whenever you see all of us come together to help people, that's what it's all about,” added Rhew.

“I'm very fortunate to have as many friends as I do,” he said. “I can't imagine not living in Kennett.”

Rhew provided on some of his fair favorites.

“Of course the food,” he said. “Also, just the experience. I remember my whole life coming out here and riding rides.”

Rhew added, “I still ride rides every year. I've got seven year olds, and Parker likes riding rides, too.”

“We play the games and enjoy the atmosphere,” he said. “I always associate the fair with beautiful weather.”

As far as being named Delta Fair Board Member of the Year Rhew stated, “It was a huge surprise. My dad had such a legacy with the fair. It means a lot.”

“My dad was the Delta Fair,” said Rhew. “This fair means so much to me. It makes me feel like a kid again.”
