POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. - Police say a homeowner shot a suspected intruder in the early morning hours Saturday.
Rondriguez Hopkins, 24, of the 400 block of Karen Drive was treated at a Cape Girardeau hospital for a gunshot wound and is now lodged at Butler County jail facing charges of first-degree burglary and second-degree property damage.
Police were called at 5:50 a.m. Saturday to the 600 block of Victor Street, according to a press release.
“Upon arriving, officers contacted the resident of the home, who indicated she shot at a male subject as he entered her bedroom window,” police stated.
Hopkins was contacted by police within a block of the home.
“Hopkins was found to have a gunshot wound to his shoulder and his hand,” officers reported. “Hopkins was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment, before being transferred to a Cape Girardeau hospital.”
No charges are being sought against the resident of the home, following discussions with the Butler County Prosecutor’s Office, Poplar Bluff police reported.
Upon his release from treatment, Hopkins was taken into custody, transported back to Poplar Bluff and booked in Butler County jail.
