MALDEN, Mo. - Police here are on the search for a man who is accused of striking a woman with his car, injuring her and leaving the scene.

MPD officers are on the lookout for Naaman J. Caldwell, 22, of 10700 Vorhof Dr., Saint Louis.

Dunklin County Asst. Prosecuting Attorney Ryan Dicus Monday charged Caldwell with two misdemeanors, operating a vehicle on highway without a valid license; operating a vehicle owned by another knowing owner of vehicle has not maintained financial responsibility; and felony leaving the scene of an accident with injuries.

Caldwell in February was charged at Cape Girardeau with misdemeanor failing to maintain financial responsibility for which he was fined a total of $186.

He was in 2019 charged with felony first-degree or attempted assault.

Caldwell pleaded guilty to that charge at Butler County Circuit Court and was sentenced to 120 months' incarceration in the Missouri Department of Corrections with a Suspended Execution of Sentence ordered. He was placed on 60 months' probation with the Missouri Dept. of Probation and Parole.

35th Judicial District Circuit Court Associate Judge John Spielman Monday set Caldwell's bond at $75,000 cash only.

The Malden Dept. of Public Safety dispatchers at approximately 1:30 a.m. Sunday fielded a report of a vehicle leaving the scene of a crash in the 900 block of N. Kimball St., and a woman was hit by a car.

The victim was injured severely, according to reports.

She was taken to an area hospital where her condition was upgraded to stable, according to reports.

The vehicle in question was found abandoned later, police said.
