KENNETT, Mo. - Weather here has been the topic of conversation lately.
And that's liable to continue into a very dry, very frozen next week, a National Weather Service (NWS) meteorologist said Thursday afternoon.
NWS Memphis Meteorologist Andrew Sniezak tells The Delta Dunklin Democrat that aside from rain forecasted for late Friday night into early Saturday morning, the days after are predicted to remain dry and blisteringly cold.
"At this point we expect dry weather through Friday afternoon into the evening," Sniezak says. "Rain moves into the Bootheel late Friday night into early Saturday morning.
"We expect a big drop in temperatures Saturday night," the meteorologist warns. "We'll start cooling Saturday night and into Sunday when we'll see highs Sunday only in the mid to upper 20s."
Pet owners should take caution and provide for their outdoor pets, because after a bit of rain comes frigid temperatures, the weatherman says.
"So, it looks like Monday morning will be coldest when we'll see lows, like 12 or 13 degrees there," Sniezak says. "With wind chill in the single digits Monday morning.
"Then the rest of the week is expected to stay fairly cold," he adds. "But there's a little uncertainty there because of a storm system that's supposed to track along the Gulf of Mexico and bring some precipitation to the Mid-South."
However, that shouldn't impact the Kennett area, he says.
"At this point it looks like most of that precipitation should stay well south of the Missouri Bootheel," Sniezak forecasts. "It will be a dry, but definitely cold week ahead."
