Mail N More at Kennett and the original Dexter location offers comprehensive shipping services with UPS, FedEx, and USPS, plus office solutions like printing and notary services. Owned by the McKay family, it combines convenience and community support.

KENNETT, Mo. - When the McKay family of Dexter decide to expand its Mail n' More business, they look no farther than the Dunklin County seat.

The McKay's, Darrell, and his RN wife Stephanie, purchase an existing shipping outfit, Mail n' More at the Stoddard County city and the fit is a great one for both them and their three children.

"There was a family at Dexter who were closing in on retirement," Darrel McKay says. He stands in a spacious First Street facility behind a counter in front of packing tables and shelves filled with shipping products. "They were interested in selling their business.

"We went and talked to them," he continues. "We did some trial runs with it to see if it fit our family as well, and it really did. So, we bought their business."

Like most folks in the Bootheel, both Darrell and Stephanie work long hours to provide for their family.

"We have three kids who attend school at Dexter," McKay says. "A 14-year-old, a 10-year-old and a nine-year-old.

"So, they're in elementary and middle school," he continues. "Stephanie is a registered nurse who works for Saint Francis Health System at Sikeston in the Ferguson Medical Building."

The McKay's took over the Dexter business in July of 2024, so opening a second Mail n' More at Kennett is a ground-breaking, history-making event, since no facility like it exists at the Dunklin County seat, McKay explains.

So, Team McKay loads up and brings its considerable shipping talents to Kennett to christen the second Mail n' More store.

"We're mainly a shipping store," Darrell McKay says. "We ship UPS, FedEx and USPS.

"So basically, if someone comes in with an item, and they say, 'We need to get this to California overnight,' or whatever they need, we can box it, pack it and ship it and do it all right here," he adds. "There are several places here at Kennett where people could drop off packages. But no place that offered the services we do with FedEx, UPS and USPS all at one stop."

Mail n' More offers a variety of post office type boxes as well, McKay explains.

"It's cheaper here, too," the owner says. "It's almost half the price of the US Postal Service.

"And they can receive UPS and FedEx packages along with USPS mail," he emphasizes. "They can't do that at the post office."

Convenience is a key word for McKay, and he aims to please.

"It doesn't matter what size the box is," he says. "We'll always hold packages for you.

"People can get come in and pick them up," McKay adds. "From the smallest boxes and biggest packages, no extra charge."

Although the McKay's employ several people at Dexter, Darrell says he's, "kick-starting this myself to make sure it's up and running" properly.

"Once we see what the needs are here at Kennett, we'll hire more employees," he says. "Dexter does really well, and we're still being found by people here because we're so new.

"We'll let this location mature a little before we expand further," he guarantees. "We have a place in mind, if we decide to open another store. Right now, we have no interest in that. We're focusing on Kennett and Dexter."

So far, the business community welcomes the McKay family with open arms. Christian Johnson and the Kennett Chamber of Commerce throw the combined weight of their business savvy toward Mail n' More.

"They've been extremely supportive and are behind us 100 percent," Darrell McKay explains. "They just sent out an email about our ribbon cutting ceremony and we really like them."

The Dexter location is more than a workplace for the family, Darrell says. The McKay's live at the Business 60 location, as well.

"It actually has living quarters above the business," McKay says. "So, we live in the building, too."

Kennett's Mail n' More is, as McKay describes a one-stop-shop for shipping, and clients find more than that during their visits, McKay says.

"We offer a lot of services, including drop-off service," he explains. "People can drop off their packages here absolutely free of charge.

"Anybody can come in with a pre-paid label doing their Amazon returns, set it on the counter, we'll give you a receipt showing you dropped it off and it's absolutely free," he emphasizes. "We fax. We do printing work. We laminate. We do notary services and emails if someone needs those services. We have all the shipping supplies on hand and boxes if you're moving."

Mail n' More is located at 1023 First Street, Kennett. For more information, contact Darrell McKay at 573.559.3211.
