OZORA, Mo. - A small earthquake occurred in the Bootheel Monday night, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The tremor resulted in a number of reports from residents who said they felt it.
The USGS reported the 2.4 quake shook an area about four miles west-southwest of Ozora in Ste. Genevieve County, at 11:13 p.m. Monday.
The tremor was recorded at a depth of 10 miles and the Wilber 3, CCM Cathedral Cave in Missouri, reported the seismic activity with a Streckeisen STS-6A VBB Seismometer.
The quake was centered approximately 15.5 miles east of Farmington and 32.1 miles south-southeast of Festus, Missouri, the USGS reported.
No damage or injuries were reported from the quake, which was relatively mild for the area, according to the Survey.
The tremor's epicenter was in the Illinois Basin/Ozark Dome region, a large area that includes several Midwestern states that experience seismic activity periodically, according to Survey reports.
The region is near the more active New Madrid seismic zone, which is responsible for some of the strongest earthquakes in the eastern United States.
