Waunice "Nicky" Turman, a cherished mother, grandmother, and creative spirit, passed away at 97 in Florida. Known for her sewing talents and real estate career, her life will be celebrated on October 20, 2024.

Waunice Cornelia Turman, née Vaughn, affectionately known as Nicky, passed away peacefully in Largo, Florida, at 97, on September 1, 2024. Nicky was born on July 8, 1927, in Glenwood, Ark.

Nicky is survived by a loving family, including her daughters, Pamela Yvonne Skyrme of Dunedin, Fla., Janet Leigh Presley of Dewitt, Ark., and Lisa Gaye Wilson of Great Falls, Mont.; her son, Gregory Stanley Turman (Kim) of Palm Harbor, Fla.; and her sister, Lana S. Vaughn of Bismarck, Ark.. She was a cherished grandmother to Stephanie Elizabeth (Roger) McCauley, Derric Garth (Ai Vo) Lee, Morgan Leigh (Vaughn) Graham, Paige Elizabeth (JD) Gunnell, Steven Gene Wilson Jr., Aaron Stanley Turman (Emma Dadswell), Ethan Richard Turman, and the late Sean Edgar Ward. Her legacy extends to her great-grandchildren Zachery, Brennan, Jeremy, Linleigh, Ruth, Lincoln, Theodore, Paras, and Ayla.

She was preceded in death by her parents Harry O. and Hattie V. (Bost) Vaughn; her husband, Roscoe Stanley Turman; her brothers, Jay, Allen O., and Gerald G. Vaughn; and her sister, Patty Barbara Ann (Vaughn) Lenderman.

Nicky was very creative, crocheting beautiful doilies without referring to a pattern. She excelled at designing and sewing clothing for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, specializing in formal wear, special occasion attire, and holiday items. Many school clothes and doll clothes were produced with her treasured sewing machines.

Nicky relocated from Malden, Missouri to St. Louis directly after high school graduation to work as a telephone operator. She later transferred with the same company back to her hometown. Nicky left her switchboard behind several years later to care for her growing family. After her children were grown, she earned her real estate license and helped many families find their dream homes. She relocated to Florida after retirement where she enjoyed the sunny days until her passing.

A graveside memorial service to honor and celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at Memorial Park Cemetery, 1601 N. Douglass St, Malden, Mo. Landess Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.
