The NWS warns of dangerously low wind chills in the Bootheel, with temperatures dropping as low as -7°F from Tuesday night to Thursday morning. Residents are advised to take precautions against hypothermia.

The National Weather Service (NWS) at Memphis issued two cold weather advisories beginning at 9 p.m. Tuesday and into 10 a.m. Thursday.

The first advisory forecast is for 9 p.m. Tuesday to 10 a.m. Wednesday and reflects very cold wind chills, as low as -3 below zero for the Bootheel.

The second advisory forecast is for 9 p.m. Wednesday to 10 a.m. Thursday and warns of very cold wind chills as low as -7 below for the Bootheel.

The NWS advises that frigid temperatures and negative wind chill values can lead to hypothermia with prolonged exposure.
