Omer Gaskins, 98, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2025, just one week shy of his 99th birthday. Born on January 30, 1926, in the close-knit town of Campbell, Mo. Omer spent his life cherishing the values of family, hard work and community.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Irma and Omer Gaskins: two brothers, James Gaskins and Gene Gaskins: and his beloved wife of 34 years, Shirley Gaskins, who passed away just three months earlier. Their enduring love and partnership were a testament to devotion and resilience.
Omer is survived by his brother, Marshall Gaskins (Carlene): niece, Gigi Marie Gaskins: and nephews, Gavin Gaskins, Abe Gaskins (Sandra), Zeke Gaskins (Jamie), and Joe Gaskins (Angela). Through his marriage to Shirley, Omer embraced and deeply loved the family they built together: Becky Bruce (Terry), Debbie Crafton (Frank), Sharon Sutherland (Rex), and Jeff Lack (Julie).
As a grandfather, Omer brought joy and guidance to his grandchildren: Jake Crafton (Lindsey), DeDee Binkard (Jon), Ashley Jewell, Leah Anglin, Hanna Hunter (Dustin), Megan Myrick (Jay), and Andy Lack. Along with his 13 great-grandchildren, who he enjoyed greatly. He often shared how much he treasured being part of a large, lively family, where he found happiness in the activties and togetherness they shared.
A pharmacist for more than 50 years, Omer exemplified hard work and determination. While attending pharmacy school, he lived in the back room of the shop where he worked, a reflection of his unyielding drive to achieve his goals.
Omer also honorably served his country as a member of the Army during World War II, a duty he carried out with pride.
A man of many passions, Omer found peace and joy in fishing, appreciating the stillness of the water. He also enjoyed hunting and valued the camaraderie he shared with fellow sportsmen.
Omer's life was defined by kindness, determination, and his deep love for family. His legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him, and he will be dearly missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to a charity of your choice in Omer's memory.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of NHC and the Nettie Miles Wing for their compassionate care and support during Omer's time with them.
